Issue

• A Mobile Telecoms company, with subsidiaries in a number of major European markets, were looking to develop a common understanding and approach to the ‘device’ supply chain as a way of streamlining the business to deliver significant operating cost savings.
• The various subsidiaries did not have a common understanding of what constituted the ‘device’ supply chain resulting in differing operating models, in terms of mix of in house and outsourced process and operations, in each country thereby constraining possible savings opportunities

Solution

• Over a five week period, a small team worked with senior management teams in each subsidiary to develop a common understanding of the device supply chain, a device supply chain vision, critical success factors and supply chain maturity profiles
• Using the above a range of outsourcing options were developed and costed. The most appropriate option to support business needs could then be selected using objective criteria

• The route map developed showed how adopting a common approach could deliver the significant cost savings required by the business
• Additionally, as an interim step, cost modelling showed that there were cost reduction opportunities through the renegotiation of existing outsourcing contracts
